MyKey. This innovation of Ford launched in 2009, has been made standard for nearly all-new Ford & Lincoln models. Researchers have found that 58% of teen accidents were from distracted teenagers. MyKey is a technology protecting new drivers, and parents should have one. “With the introduction of MyKey, Ford has taken aim at reducing that number.”
In the 2008-2009 year model cars, they had released a MyKey system to help new drivers be safe.
MyKey has four main features which include: Belt Minder (zones out audio) top speed (limit car’s speed), volume limits (limit speaker system), and early low fuel warning alert.
Sounds good, so what is the problem?
If you have only one key, that’s not enough. You’ll have to have at least two working keys for an all-keys-lost procedure at Ford. We can add a new key for you!
When you buy a Ford and you are not fully aware of MyKey technology, you might push the MyKey button on the steering wheel, and since then your car will act weird. It will lock down maximum speed, and limit your stereo volume among other weird things. Ford dealerships are aware of the problem but refuse to fix it since they are required not to disclose this information. The only solution is to replace it with a new one!
This repair takes about 10 minutes if the locksmith has the tools to program your MyKey system. But if you have to replace the entire system, it will take 20 minutes minimum and several hours on top of that for installation.

I recently bought a used 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4×4 with the premium package. It is an awesome truck except that the MyKey system is locking out my home radio stations.
